The Ryanair cabin crew will go on strike on July 25 and 26 affecting travellers in Catalonia. The decision was made public on Thursday, after Spanish, Portugese, Italian, and Belgian unions representing the employees met in Brussels. Workers had given the company until June 30 to meet their demands, which include pay rises and an abolishment of agency work.

The Spanish Workers’ Union (USO) said through a statement that it expects the strike participation will be massive due to the current “working conditions” the crew have. “75% of the workforce is hired through temporary work companies subject to Irish legislation, without basic salary, earning only for flight hours, which causes tremendous job insecurity  and instability,” it said.

In Spain as a whole more than 1,800 Ryanair employees have been called to go on strike, which could affect thousands of travellers in the peak of the summer holiday season.
