Record September for housing sales as transactions jump 6%
Sales of new-builds grow by over 16%

Housing sales in Catalonia jumped 5.99% in September compared to last year, reaching 9,491 transactions, a record for the month of September (based on data since 2007).
The provisional figures published on Tuesday by Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE) showed a sharp contrast with August, when the number of sales declined.
August's 7,611 transactions – a 0.6% year-on-year decrease – ended a streak of 13 consecutive months of increases.
Of the total 9,491 transactions in September, 7,649 were sales of existing homes, a 3.8% increase.
The number of newly built homes increased by 16.14% to 1,842, the highest figure for September since 2010.
In total, 8,958 sales were free-market housing (+6.38%) and 533 were protected housing (-0.19%).
All Catalan regions experienced year-on-year increases, with Girona recording the sharpest percentage growth at 14.21% (1,310 transactions). This was followed by Lleida, up 9.22% (545); Tarragona, which rose 6.82% (1,472); and Barcelona, with a 3.93% increase (6,164).
Across Spain, sales of homes rose by 3.8% compared to September 2024, reaching 63,794 transactions.
