Norwegian Airlines have announced plans to reopen their Barcelona airport short-haul base by summer 2023.

The company expects to hire between 60 and 70 people across Spain, including pilots and cabin crew.

The Scandinavian carrier will base eight planes across Spain, of which two will be in Barcelona, three in Alicante and the rest in Malaga.

As for Europe as a whole, Norwegian Airlines will hire 300 new pilots and 500 new cabin crew over the next year, when it will add 15 new B-737 aircraft.

Before the pandemic, the company had its southern European long-haul base in Barcelona airport too, where six planes connected the Catalan capital with the United States.

The company were hit hard by the global health crisis provoked by Covid-19, cutting over 600 jobs in Barcelona airport.

Now, in 2022, the company is bouncing back strong, and is ready to reopen some of the bases it was previously forced to close.
