Mortgage contracts top 7,300 in November for the first time since 2007

The number of mortgages sealed in November 2025 exceeded 7,300, the highest figure for any month of November since 2007.

This figure represents a year-on-year increase of 7.9%, according to data published on Monday by the National Statistics Institute (INE). 

In total, 7,373 mortgages were registered on homes in Catalonia that month. 

It represents the highest figure for the eleventh month of the year since the property bubble burst in November 2008. 

However, compared with the previous month, 18.3% fewer home mortgages were signed, as there were a total of 9,025 signed in October.

The increase is driven by the  Barcelona area, as it is the only territory to record a pre-crisis high.

As for Girona, the 732 mortgages represent a 4.3% increase over the same month in 2024, but a monthly drop of approximately 20%. 

Last November's figure is the highest since 2022, and the average loan amount reached a record high for the month, at €173,843.

In Lleida, the 383 signings represent the busiest November since 2009.

The average loan amount is considerably lower than in Girona or Barcelona, standing at €117,838, a decrease from November 2023.

Finally, Tarragona recorded 890 operations during the same month, 15% fewer than in October, but 7.2% more than in November 2024. 

The Camp de Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre regions have experienced their busiest November since 2022, with an average amount of €129,351.
