Prices fell in Catalonia by 0.7% in April compared to the same month of the previous year.

According to data published this Thursday by the National Statistics Institute (INE), the rate of change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the country has been seven tenths lower compared to March, when the change was of 0%.

The fall in prices during April is due to the fall in the price of fuels (-7.4%) and household supplies (-5.7%).

On the other hand, the amount of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 3.9%, while the price of hotel and restaurant services rose by 2.1%. Statewide, prices also fell by 0.7% in April.

The CPI in the Barcelona region fell six tenths of a percentage point in April, down to -0.5%.

In the Girona area in northern Catalonia, the drop was even larger. A 1.2% fall in prices brought the CPI to -1.3%.

Elsewhere in Lleida, a 1.1% drop now leaves the inflation rate at -1%.
