Catalan exporters consider the tariff agreement between the EU and the United States as a "technical tie," and are unsure how to evaluate sales forecasts as a result of the deal.

"It is not the best of agreements, but it is not the worst either. Therefore, we could say that it is a technical tie", the general director of Amec, Joan Tristany, has pointed out to ACN.

"The desirable thing would probably have been tariffs at zero, reciprocally," said the general director of the industrial exporters association Amec, Joan Tristany. "But, it is obvious that in a negotiation a middle ground must be found," he said.

"It is what it is, and we will have to adapt to these 15% tariffs," he acknowledged.

Instead, he considers the tariffs that the US will impose on EU competitors such as China or Turkey to be key.

It's estimated that the tariffs will affect 3,161 companies in Catalonia that export to the United States, with total sales worth €4.351 billion in 2024.
