The USO union has called a three-day strike of Easyet cabin crew in Spain, scheduled for June 25–27, citing major pay disparities between Spanish staff and their European counterparts.

A total of 657 crew members from Barcelona, Alicante, Malaga, and Palma have been called to take part in the strike, which is expected to affect flights involving 21 aircraft.

The aim of the strike is to bring the working and salary conditions of Spanish-based cabin crew in line with those at other European bases where Easyjet operates, according to a press release from USO.

Salaries in Spain are "between 30% and 200% lower" than elsewhere, the union says.

"The workforce is asking for decent, fair, and equitable working conditions in line with the European standards Easyjet applies in other countries," said Pier Luigi Copello, USO general secretary for Easyjet Spain.

Copello highlighted the "sharp rise in the cost of living in Spain, which is now comparable to that of other European countries."

"The same cannot be said for the wages of Easyjet cabin crew in Spain, which remain close to the minimum wage (SMI)," he said.

The strike coincides with deadlocked negotiations over a new collective bargaining agreement.

A mediation session between the union and airline is scheduled for Wednesday "in an effort to reach an agreement that could lead to the strike being called off," the UCO statement said.
