DHL Express opens major international hub at Barcelona airport
The facility has a sorting capacity of over 20,000 packages per hour and will remain in the city for at least 20 years

Logistics company DHL Express inaugurated its new international hub at Barcelona’s El Prat Airport on Tuesday.
At the opening ceremony, Mike Parra, CEO of DHL Express Europe, announced that the company intends to remain in the Catalan capital for at least 20 years.
The facility, which has a sorting capacity of more than 20,000 packages per hour, was designed to accommodate projected growth over the next two decades.
Covering 29,000 square meters, the hub will operate international air routes connecting Europe with the United States, South America, and North Africa.

Catalan economy minister Alícia Romero highlighted the investment, stressing that the company chose Catalonia for its “strategic” value and that the project supports the government’s goal of positioning Catalonia as the driver of the Spanish economy.
Parra emphasized that the €80 million investment “demonstrates the company’s commitment to the region and to Spain.” He also noted that more than 500 people are currently employed at the new facility, a number expected to grow as demand increases.
Miguel Borrás, CEO of DHL Express Spain, added that the company currently serves over 20,000 clients in Spain, most of them small and medium-sized businesses, including 4,000 in Catalonia.
