Catalonia received 2.1 million international tourists in September, up 4.5% from the same month last year, according to the latest data from Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE).

As in August, it was the second most popular destination in the country for foreign tourists, accounting for 20.8% of the total. In the first nine months of the year, 16.4 million international tourists visited Catalonia, up nearly 4% from the same period in 2025.

The 2.1 million international arrivals also set a record for the month. They were 4.5% above last year's figure, an increase of about 90,000 visitors compared with September 2025.

Visitors spent an average of €1,317 per stay in September, about €259 per person per day. The average stay was 5.1 days, slightly shorter than in September 2025.

The 16.4 million international tourists who visited Catalonia through September are the most for that period since records began. That is nearly 4% more than last year, or 626,741 additional visitors.
