Catalan second quarter economy grows by 3% year-on-year 

The Catalan economy grew by 3% year-on-year in the second quarter of the year, according to the Statistical Institute of Catalonia (Idescat). 

This 3% growth is higher than that of the Spanish economy of 2.7% and the EU economy of 1.2%. 

Comparing the quarterly difference, the Catalan GDP grew by 0.7%. 

This growth is fueled from increase in construction, services, industry and agriculture. 

The service sector has grown 3.4% since the last quarter, which is mainly from restaurants and hotels, programing and consulting activities and wholesale trade. 

Industry has grown 1.5% from mostly growth in pharmaceuticals, the manufacture of motor vehicles and the production of plastic materials. 

Construction and agriculture continue to grow, construction by 3.7% and agriculture by 0.3%, though it is a smaller growth than the first quarter. 

The first quarter saw construction growing by 5.1% and agriculture by 3.3%.
