Economy grows 0.7% compared with previous quarter

Catalonia's GDP grew by 2.4% in the third quarter of the year compared with the same period in 2024, according to preliminary data released on Thursday by the Catalan Statistics Institute (Idescat).
The increase reflects positive performance across all sectors, particularly in construction, up 4.9% year-on-year and up one percentage point from the previous quarter.
Catalonia’s year-on-year growth remains below the Spanish rate of 2.8% for the same period, but is well above the European average of 1.5%. The Catalan economy grew 0.7% compared with the previous quarter, while the Spanish economy grew 0.6%.
GDP in the third quarter showed a slowdown compared with the first quarter, when annual growth was 3.3%, and the second quarter, which saw a 2.5% year-on-year increase.
Idescat also revised the previously published second-quarter figure down from 2.7% to 2.5%.
The services sector recorded a year-on-year growth rate of 2.4%, five-tenths lower than in the second quarter (2.9%).
The strongest contributions came from hospitality and restaurants; transport and storage logistics; security and investigative services; and other professional, scientific, and technical activities.
Industry grew 1.9% year-on-year, up four-tenths from the previous quarter (1.5%), driven by the pharmaceutical, automotive, and machinery and equipment manufacturing industries.
