Founded in 1925 in Figueres, wholesale food distribution company Transgourmet Ibèrica has since grown into a major European distributor that runs franchised supermarkets, wholesale self-service centers, and delivery service for clients and customers across Spain. It is also part of the Swiss company Transgourmet Group, Europe's second largest wholesale distribution company.

Over the past year, Transgourmet Ibèrica has celebrated its 100th anniversary with regional events in Girona, Málaga, Burgos, Tarragona, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Madrid. At the inaugural event in Girona last March, general director Lluís Labairu noted that "Transgourmet Ibèrica's history has been woven by people."

At an event Wednesday night at the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC), the company commemorated the past 100 years with guests including industry professionals, staff members, clients and Catalan government officials.

Throughout 2025, over 3,000 people have attended Transgourmet Ibèrica's commemorative celebrations.

Wednesday's event was inaugurated by Transgourmet Group president Joos Sutter, who emphasized that "what defines the company's one hundred years is service to people and the community around us. This vocation continues to be the driving force that will propel our future."

Òscar Ordeig, Catalan Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food, highlighted the role of Catalan companies in European collaboration.

"Catalonia wants to lead the transformation of European food systems, and it will do so hand in hand with companies that share this vision and act with commitment to quality, like Transgourmet," Ordeig said.

Josep Rull, president of the Catalan parliament, closed the speeches by commending Transgourmet Ibèrica's sustainability commitments and ability "to evolve, grow, innovate and adapt to changes" throughout its long history.

The event continued with a dinner served by Catalan chef Nandu Jubany, a castell exhibition by Colla Vella dels Xiquets de Valls, music by violinist Pablo Navarro, and a flamenco performance by dancer Sara Baras.

As part of the centenary celebrations, the company has produced a documentary and photographic exhibitions about its evolution, as well as an original song "Somos Fuertes."

Looking ahead to future years, Transgourmet Ibèrica also invested 85 million euros this year into acquisitions, new construction, and a joint supermarket venture with fellow food supplier Nudisco.
