Sales to US continue three-month downtrend, with 3.9% drop on 2024 figures

Catalan exports fell 2.3% in October compared to the same month in 2024, according to figures published by Spain's finance ministry on Monday.

Overall, sales abroad stood at €9.43 billion. Despite the drop compared to last year, it is the third-highest figure since March 2023, behind only €10.38 billion in March 2023 and €9.65 billion in October 2024.

Tariffs continued to impact Catalan exports, as sales to the United States fell for the third consecutive month. In October, sales were 3.9% lower, totaling €370.1 million less.

Aside from the US, sales also dropped in Brazil (-3.6%, €87 million) and in Canada (-23.2%, €28 million), according to the published data. Meanwhile, exports to Mexico increased by 16.4%, totalling €193.8 million.

Exports to the EU also saw a drop of 1.3%, totalling €5.77 billion, with Germany leading the way with a drop of 8.5%, totalling €1.03 billion. France, on the other hand, saw 5.4% more imports from Catalonia, totaling €1.54 billion.

The chemical sector continued to be the leading industry in terms of sales abroad with €2.61 billion, a drop of 11%. 

Imports also registered a drop compared to 2024's figures, down 5.7% to €9.86 billion.

Meanwhile, in September, Catalan exports rose 5.9% year-on-year, reaching €8.57 billion, marking a new record for the month.
