Barcelona Metro exceeds pre-pandemic passenger numbers with 28 million in August

Journeys up 17.6% from August 2022 and up 16.6% from August 2019

Barcelona Metro saw 28,067,000 passengers in August, up 17.6% compared to the same month last year, according to provisional data from Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE). 

It is the highest number of journeys on record, dating back to 2012, and represents a 16.6% increase from August 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic.

A record 14,118,000 passengers traveled on urban buses, up 15.1% from August 2022 and 1.2% more than in 2019. 

Across Spain, more than 335.7 million passengers used public transport in August, 22.5% more than in August of last year.
