Barcelona Airport sees passenger numbers surge to nearly 3.9 million in February
Number of travellers up 3.8% as freight traffic jumps 24%

Barcelona Airport handled 3,895,934 passengers in February, a 3.8% increase compared with the same month last year, according to figures released on Thursday by Spanish airport management company AENA.
The total marks a new February record for passenger traffic.
In the first two months of 2026, the airport has recorded 7.7 million passengers, up 3.4% from January and February 2025.
Aircraft movements remained largely stable in February, totaling 24,474, a 0.2% increase, and reaching 49,011 when combined with January operations.
Freight traffic at Barcelona-El Prat surged 24% year-on-year in February, reaching 17,746 tonnes, also a new February record.
Cumulative freight for the first two months rose to 33,356 tonnes, up 20.4% from the same period last year.
AENA noted that railway restrictions added 108,000 passengers across its airport network in Spain.
Record passenger numbers
Compared with January, the airport recorded a 2.3% increase in passenger numbers.
Since the start of the year, Barcelona-El Prat has registered 7,702,829 passengers, up 3.4%, maintaining record levels.
Aircraft movements for January and February totaled 49,011, unchanged from the same period in 2025.
Of the February passengers, 3,887,362 were on commercial flights, up 3.7% year-on-year.
International traffic accounted for 2,910,190 passengers, a 5.8% increase, while domestic passengers fell 2% to 977,172.
Barcelona remained the second busiest airport in Spain, behind Madrid-Barajas, which handled 5,077,072 passengers, up 5.3% from February 2025.
AENA highlighted that February set passenger records across the Spanish airport network and at 18 airports in Spain.
February figures do not yet reflect the impact of the Iran conflict, as the closure of Middle Eastern airspace began in early March.
Girona Airport
Girona Airport handled 41,011 passengers in February, up 5.6% from the same month in 2025, although year-to-date traffic remains down 1.3% at 76,473 passengers.
