The security team at Barcelona airport called an indefinite strike from Thursday to Monday starting on August 10, divided into three shifts, as announced on Monday by different unions.

Staff will stop working from 4 am to 7 am, from 9 am to 11 am, and from 4 pm to 8 pm.

Unions called the strike in a complaint over the abuse of authority and for "breaking agreements" of the company, I-Sec. Workers claim that the business is not considering the 10 minutes break per hour that staff has nor the family conciliation.

Workers are also asking the company to pay for the parking costs or to set up a free parking area, as well as a €50 monthly bonus for those guards who speak several languages. One of the other requests is for staff to have two weekends off each month.

The strike arrives during one of the busiest times of the infrastructure, as thousands fly from and to the Barcelona airport, coinciding with the summer holidays.

Complains against charging for hand luggage

The OCU Consumer Organization filed six complaints on Monday against airlines for charging extra for hand luggage.

The group considers "abusive charges" the conditions in place by Aegean Airlines, Finnair, Norwegian Air Shuttle, Ryanair, Singapore Airlines, and Vueling.

OCU has complained against these airlines to the Catalan consumers agency, which will study the concerns.
