Barcelona airport hits 5.6m passengers in August, setting new monthly record
Summer 2025 becomes best on record with 11 million passengers

Barcelona airport broke records again in August, handling 5.6 million passengers, airport operator AENA announced on Friday.
The figures also confirm that summer 2025 has been the best on record. From July 1 to August 31, the airport handled 11.2 million passengers, nearly 4% more than last year, marking a historic high.
The aggregate figure from January to August also set a new record, with over 38 million passengers, a 4% increase from 2024.
The airport operator celebrated the historic figures, highlighting that they were achieved "without significant operational disruptions," despite Ryanair strikes that had little impact.
August also saw a new record for daily passengers. On August 14, 195,166 people passed through the airport, while the day with the most arriving passengers was August 29, with 100,000, also a record.

Of the 5.6 million passengers recorded in August, over 4.3 million were on international flights, representing a 7% increase, while national flights declined.
Looking at figures since the start of the year, international travel has followed the same upward trend, rising nearly 6% compared to last year.
Regarding cargo, August saw 16,209 tons of goods transported, a 9.2% increase from August 2024, marking a new historic monthly record for the month of August.
Girona and Reus airports
Meanwhile, the Girona-Costa Brava airport, on Catalonia’s northern coast, handled nearly 350,000 passengers in August, a 1.5% increase compared to the same month last year.
Aircraft operations also rose by 6%, reaching around 3,400. Since the start of the year, the airport has served 1.6 million passengers, a 12.5% increase over the same period in 2024.
Reus Airport, near the beaches of the Costa Daurada in southern Catalonia, saw passenger numbers rise 12.6% to 232,000 in August.
The trend continues for the year as a whole, with a total of 980,000 passengers—12% more than in the same period last year.
