Barcelona Airport has expanded its international connections with two new direct routes to Turkish cities Ankara and Izmir.

Turkish airline AJet inaugurated the first-ever direct flight between Barcelona and Ankara on Friday.

The new route will operate four times per week, with flights scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Meanwhile, another Turkish carrier, Pegasus Airlines, has launched a direct route between Izmir and Barcelona.

The new service will operate twice weekly in both directions, with flights departing Izmir at 10.55am and Barcelona at 2.30pm on Mondays and Fridays.

However, after the switch to wintertime on October 27, the Barcelona departure will move to 1.30pm.

Starting on December 7, the Izmir–Barcelona service will also include Sunday flights.
