10-Jun-24: 'Pro-independence groups reach to name new parliament speaker'
Former Catalan territory minister Josep Rull has been named the new speaker of the Catalan parliament after a deal between pro-independence parties. Shortly before the first session after the May Catalan election, Junts, Esquerra and CUP reached a deal to make Rull, from Junts, the new speaker of the chamber, the second-highest ranking position in Catalan politics after the president. However, there was some controversy over the right of Junts' MPs in exile to delegate their vote.
