The French Arts Centre is organising one of the largest and most complete retrospective exhibitions on the Catalan artist. 33 years ago, when Dalí was still alive, the Centre Pompidou held a retrospective of his work. In the 2012 exhibition, which will run until the 25th of March 2013, it is claimed that Dalí is one of the most influential artists ever, who not only shaped surrealism but also pop art. The exhibition is full of masterpieces, such as the soft and melting pocket watches of The Persistence of Memory (1931), The Great Masturbator (1929) and Mae West’s room, shown in the Dalí museum in Figueres.

Until June 3rd, the Joan Miró’s Foundation displays almost 200 photos that show Joaquim Gomis’ particular universe. Gomis innovated in the way of taking photos, which were more surrealist, and the places he photographed: cities, skyscrapers and industrial landscapes were his favorite subjects.

The surrealist Catalan painter Joan Miró will have a museum in the country house he spent parts of his childhood and youth, in Mont-Roig del Camp, next to Tarragona. The family, experts and Barcelona’s Miró Foundation will decide on the exact contents, which will be displayed via permanent and temporary exhibitions.

The manuscript has been discovered in Dalí and Gala’s castle in Púbol. It reveals the writer dimension of the woman with whom the painter Salvador Dalí was deeply in love.

At an auction this week at the Sotheby Art Auction House in London, a Salvador Dalí painting was sold for no less than 16 million euros setting a world record for the Catalan artist and for any Surrealist work of art in the world.

New material portrays surrealist genius in a serious light. The acquisitions will be added to the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation's collection to better understand the personality of one of the most universal Catalan painters.
