8-Apr-24: 'President defends amnesty and referendum in Senate speech'

Catalan president, Pere Aragonès, defended the amnesty and an independence referendum in a speech in the Spanish Senate. The conservative People's Party used their absolute majority to declare the amnesty "a death sentence for the rule of law in Spain. Spain's Supreme Court has called on former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont to testify in June on terrorism charges. Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez announced plans to end 'golden visas' granting residency foreign investors.
