Writer Caterina Albert, who took on the male pseudonym Victor Català because of the criticism she faced. 

Educator Francesca Bonnemaison, who created a free, open library for working-class women to get an education. 

Anarcho-syndicalist Teresa Claramunt, a factory worker who created the Autonomous Society of Women of Barcelona. 

Trans activist Silvia Reyes, who came to Barcelona in 1972 and became a key figure in the city's LGBT movement. 

Flamenco dancer Carmen Amaya, who grew up in the shantytown of Somorrostro in Barcelona to become an international star. 

Operatic soprano Montserrat Caballé, one of the greatest voices of all time. 

Singer and songwriter Rosalía, the genre-bending innovator who is most listened to female Spanish and Catalan artist on Spotify.  

Chef Carme Ruscalleda, the first Catalan to achieve three Michelin stars. 

Middle-distance runner Carmen Valero, considered the best Spanish female athlete of the 20th century. 

And footballer Alexia Putellas, two-time Ballon d'Or winner who has had an immense impact on and off the pitch.

This week's Catalan phrase is 'Visca la lluita feminista' – 'Long live the feminist struggle'.
