Barcelona airport sets new record for April with almost 5m travelers
Passengers increased 6.6% compared to previous year, with 75% international flights

The Josep Tarradellas Barcelona El Prat airport set a new record for April, with 4,903,849 travelers, according to the latest figures shared by Spain’s airport manager, AENA.
The figures show an increase of 6.6% compared to April 2024, becoming the seventh consecutive month of monthly records.
Easter Week is mainly the reason behind the increase of 12.6% compared to March.
Of all travelers, more than 75%, or 3,722,643, were flying internationally, while 1,172,131 were domestic flights, down 0.8% compared to last year.
As for the first four months of 2025, Barcelona’s airport recorded its best-ever first four-month period, with 16,678,382 passengers, a 4.2% increase compared to 2024.
In addition to Barcelona, AENA operates the airports in Girona-Costa Brava, Reus, and Sabadell. The latter is mainly used for training and private jet operations.
The Girona-Costa Brava airport saw 205,331 passengers in April, a 20% increase from last year.
This is the highest number of travelers recorded at the airport in April in eleven years.
Since the beginning of 2025, 340,000 passengers have traveled to and from the airport, 22% more than the previous year.
In terms of operations, Girona has seen a 40% increase in takeoffs and landings, totaling 6,475.
Since last year, the airport has added two new routes, bringing the total to 49 destinations.
As for the southern Catalonia’s Reus Airport, it registered 116,777 passengers in April, a 14.5% increase since April 2024.
In total, the airport handled 5,794 operations in the first four months of the year
