29-May-23: 'Spanish PM calls snap general election following local election results'
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez called for a snap general election on July 23, after yesterday's local and regional elections across Spain. The bruising results suffered by the Socialists yesterday saw the conservative People's Party sweep across Spain. Spaniards will be called to vote in a snap election this summer, and the start of the election campaign will coincide with Spain assuming the presidency of the European Union Council from July 1.
