21-Nov-19: 'EU chamber head potentially willing to accept vetoed Catalan MEPs-elect'

The EU parliament speaker is open to accepting the three vetoed pro-independence MEP-elects should the EU court rule that they have the right to take up their seats. EU chamber head David Sassoli says he will abide by the law if the EU court rules against the current veto of Catalan MEP-elects Oriol Junqueras, Carles Puigdemont and Toni Comín. The court's top lawyer said that Junqueras should be able to take up his seat. Nearly half of all Spaniards outside Catalonia would accept the result of an agreed independence referendum, says the latest Catalan government poll. 70% of Catalans want such a vote, with 57% residents in the rest of Spain against it. The survey suggests a 49% support for independence and an average rating of 2 out of 10 for the Spanish monarchy. The People's Party has urged Ciutadans, some of whose leaders are stepping down after their recent electoral loss, to join forces in the next Catalan election. Right wing unionists are skeptical of the Catalan president, who claims there will not be a snap election. The upwards trend continues as exports grew by 10% in September compared to the same month in 2018.
