London (ACN).- The Catalan financial entity CaixaBanks is the world’s best bank in technological innovation and the best bank in Spain according to the British financial magazine ‘Euromoney’. The Barcelona-based bank was awarded these two distinctions at a gala organised in London on Thursday evening. The President of CaixaBank, Isidre Fainé, stated that the awards represent “recognition” of the Catalan bank’s way of working. The Catalan entity is the largest bank within the Spanish market, ahead of the two world giants Santander and BBVA. Furthermore, it leads online banking in Spain with 8.8 million clients. It is the second time that CaixaBank has been considered by ‘Euromoney’ as the best bank in Spain, as the Barcelona-based company already received this award last year.

At London’s ceremony, ‘Euromoney’ named the US bank Wells Fargo as the world’s best global entity. In addition, the CEO of the Lloyds Banking Group, the Portuguese Antonio Horta-Osório, was named Banker of the Year.

‘Euromoney’ is one of the leading financial magazines internationally, and it was founded in 1969. Since 1992, the publication has organised an award ceremony for financial entities. The awards included some 20 categories which are added to prizes for world regions and states. According to the organisation, they recognise institutions and businesspeople that “show leadership, innovation and market impulse”.
