Barcelona (FCB).- Luis Suárez is the golden boy. On Wednesday at the Damm Brewery in Barcelona he was presented with the Golden Shoe award that he shares this year with Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, who both scored 31 goals in the Premiership and La Liga last season, respectively. The new Barça signing was in glowing form alongside his wife Sofia at an event that attracted massive media attention, with more than 100 members of the press packed into the hall.

‘King’ Kenny

He was presented with the award by former Liverpool player and manager, Kenny Dalglish, who was very much involved in taking the player to Anfield in 2011. “He is a fantastic player” said the Scotsman. “It was a pleasure to watch him play.” Dalglish also admitted that he had had to change his plans to be in Barcelona today. "I had a game of golf at the same time as the gala” he laughed.  “But it’s an honour to be here.”

Before the award was presented, video were shown of Suarez in action, as well as special message from Suarez’s former captain at Liverpool, Steven Gerard, saying that “you deserve this prize. Barça are very lucky to have you. We’re going to miss you.”

Thanks to family and Liverpool

With the trophy in his hands, the Uruguay international said that "this is a lovely moment. I want to thank the people that are most important to me, my wife and children. And also everyone at Liverpool, my colleagues and staff, for the three and a half years I spent there. But now a new era is beginning. It’s a dream come true to play fort Barça".

Good company

The event was also attended by FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu, Vice President Jordi Mestre, Director of Football Andoni Zubizarreta and team captains Xavi Hernández, Andrés Iniesta and Sergio Busquets, as well as several other personalities associated to Barça and Catalan society.
