Barça equals unbeaten Spanish League run

The draw in Seville on Sunday was Barça’s 26th La Liga (Spanish League) game on the run without defeat, which equalled the Club record that had stood since the 1973/74 season.

Barcelona (FCB).- The team might have failed to take all three points at the Ramon Sánchez Pizjuán, but the draw meant that they continue to re-write the history books, clocking up an astonishing 26 game unbeaten run to match the Club record set in the 73/74 season under Rinus Michels.

73/74 run ended in la Liga title

That run helped the team of  Cruyff, Rexach, Asensi, Sotil and co. to take the Club’s ninth league title. It started following a goalless draw with Madrid in week six and lasted through to week 32 when they went down 2-0 to Athletic Bilbao, twenty six games later.

Guardiola’s team look to go one better

Pep Guardiola’s team equalled that great run on Sunday with the draw in Seville and next weekend they have the chance to better it when they take on Getafe at the Nou Camp. The run started after their shock defeat to Hercules in week two and if they avoid defeat against Getafe they will be on their way to equalling the league’s overall record of 32 unbeaten games held by Real Sociedad.

THE DETAIL

Records on the horizon

Now the 26 game mark has been equalled, Barça have the chance to push on and break yet more records:

- Thirteen away wins: if Barça can win in their next away game at Villarreal, it will make it thirteen away wins so far this season, matching the total they achieved in the treble winning season and last year, when Real Madrid also achieved the same number to share the record.

- Away goals: With Bojan’s strike in Seville, Barça now total 42 La Liga goals on the road and are just two short of the treble wining side who scored 44.
