The seaside town of Sitges, known as the gay capital of Catalonia, held its annual Pride parade on Sunday, rounding off five days of celebrations including partying, music, extravaganzas, and shows. This was the first parade in two years after the Covid-19 pandemic prevented the 2020 and 2021 celebrations from going ahead.

"Today all our inner empowerment explodes," party organizers said on Sunday. This year’s event also came with a name change, going from ‘Gay Pride’ to ‘Sitges Pride’. The reason behind the new name is to be "more diverse and open."

Around 2,000 people took part in the parade with 20 floats celebrating LGBT pride, waving rainbow flags, wearing costumes with almost no clothes, and playing loud music.

High heels, wigs, and make-up were also part of the parade on the Passeig de la Ribera boulevard. Thousands of spectators braved the hot temperatures to witness the party, with lots of dancing and photos galore.

The floats showed plenty of variety, with some carrying activists and others being more revolutionary. But all represented the diversity of the LGBT community.

Different costumes also emphasized the diversity of the town, as "after all, in this town, everyone inherits something from the Carnival celebrations," Núria Golanó, Sitges Pride spokesperson told the Catalan News Agency (ACN) on Sunday.

This year’s slogan was #SitgesLovesYou, making clear that the 11th edition of the ‘Gay Pride’, now ‘Sitges Pride’, showed it was evolving into a more "diverse, plural, and open" event, Golanó explained.
