The number of journeys made on public transport in the Barcelona metropolitan area reached a new record high in 2023.

A total of 1.0865 billion trips were made, 17% more than the previous year and 2.83% more than in 2019, the last pre-pandemic year.

The figures reported by the Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM) on Thursday show that there were 158.2 million more passengers on metro, buses, trams and trains in 2023 than in 2022, and 29.9 million more than in 2019.

In addition, demand grew progressively throughout last year, with the upward trend maintained in December.

According to the ATM, 80% of trips with integrated tickets in 2023 were made with passes, including the T-usual, T-jove, T-16 and others.

Prices in 2023 remained steady from 2022, with government-funded discounts of up to 50% on the T-usual and T-jove passes. The elegibility of the T-jove pass was also extended to people up to 30 years old.
