Catalan police, the Mossos d'Esquadra, have arrested a man in Sant Cugat del Vallès in connection with the death of at least three homeless people in the Eixample district of Barcelona during lockdown. The latest homicide was on Monday night.

Four homeless people have been killed in the same district in recent weeks.

Another person has been arrested in connection to first homicide, which took place late on March 18 or in the early hours of March 19.

The second homicide was on April 16, in the Fort Pienc neighborhood, and the third was on Casp Street, 48 hours later on the morning of April 18.

The latest death was reported to police at around 11pm on Monday night. The victim was seriously injured on the street and eventually died, despite receiving emergency medical treatment.

"The suspect used excessive and gratuitous violence against people who lived on the streets and could not defend themselves," police said during a press conference on Tuesday morning.
