The Mossos d'Esquadra, the Catalan police, have confirmed that they have killed the "alleged perpetrators" of a terrorist attack in the coastal town of Cambrils, in southern Catalonia. "We are working with the theory that events in Cambrils were a terrorist attack. We have taken down the alleged perpetrators," the police force said on Twitter. Agents have shot down at least four men, ACN has learnt. A fifth has been severely injured.

Six citizens and at least one police officer have been injured during the terrorist attack in Cambrils, according to emergency services.

The incident in this coastal town came after the attack in Barcelona, in which 13 were killed and 100 injured.

The Mossos d'Esquadra have asked people to stay inside. "Stay home, stay safe," the police said, while urging people to avoid sharing unconfirmed reports.

Images from Cambrils obtained by ACN show at least four people lying down that seem to be wearing explosive belts.

Cambrils is a popular tourist destination in the Costa Daurada, around 120 km south of Barcelona.
