Catalan cooperative La Fageda awarded for its social integration work

The BBVA bank rewards La Fageda with the 4th Integra Prize for offering quality employment for people with intellectual disabilities and mental disorders. Moreover, La Fageda carries out some care activities, like an occupational therapy service, assisted apartments for the workers, and different leisure activities. Nowadays, of the 287 people who work in La Fageda, 157 have some disability. The Catalan brand is famous for its quality dairy products.

Olot (ACN).- The cooperative enterprise La Fageda, in the town of Olot (in northern Catalonia) has been awarded the 4th Integra Prize, given by the bank BBVA, for its “excellence in its business, social labour and environmental management”. The bank has recognized La Fageda’s commitment to the immediate environment, through a competitive and high quality product, according to the jury’s verdict. The Catalan brand is famous for its quality dairy products. The bank has also recognised La Fageda’s work generating quality employment for people with disabilities. The Catalan cooperative hires people of the region who have intellectual disabilities and severe mental disorders. BBVA has chosen this project among the 160 candidates for the prize. The prize is €200.000 and this is its fourth year.


Nowadays, of the 287 people who work in La Fageda, 157 have some disability.  The cooperative began in 1982 in Olot, and its main activities are agriculture, a dairy farm for milk production, a processing factory to prepare the products, a section for gardening and a craft room. All the activities are developed in a Special Centre of Occupation.

Moreover, La Fageda carries out some care activities, like an occupational therapy service, assisted apartments for the workers, and different leisure activities, in order to improve the quality of life of the people that work in the cooperative.
