The City Council of Badalona has formally requested the Catalan Government to carry out comprehensive technical inspections of 440 apartments located near the block that tragically collapsed last week, resulting in the loss of three lives.

The apartments affected are located in the streets of Canigó, Llefià and Ausiàs March in Badalona and were all built between 1954 and 1960 by the same developer.

"There was an inspection fifteen days before the collapse. Therefore, these inspections must go one step further and involve the best professionals," said Daniel Gracia, from the Badalona City Council.

In addition to the request for inspection, the City Council is asking the government to create a direct subsidy program to cover the cost of reinforcing the structures and rebuilding the collapsed blocks.

The City Council expects all of these proposed measures to be formalized in an agreement that it hopes to sign next week.

Residents of the building evacuated in Badalona on Wednesday adjacent to the one that partially collapsed last week will not be able to return to their homes until work is done to strengthen the roof.

Twenty families were removed from their homes after a crack was found in one of the apartments in the building next to the one that fell last week, causing the deaths of three people.
