Fire-fighters in Catalonia will soon be able to work with a new electronic device that integrates all the specific information required for each and every emergency and which automates a process that is currently being carried out manually. Indra, the company responsible for the development of the device, won a 8.7 million euro contract from the Home Affairs Department of Catalonia to develop this tool. The informatic platform aims to facilitate and speed up the work of fire-fighters. The government expects a rise in efficiency and enhanced coordination between all the various fire brigades in the country.
The device will allow firemen to simulate various strategies in 3D, in order to select the very best for each set of circumstances. This will be especially useful in risky operations, such as rescues during flooding or urban fires. After the emergency, firemen will be able to write detailed reports about the episode with the same device. They will even be able to calculate the estimated costs of the operation.

All the emergency data will be received instantaneously by all 167 fire brigades in Catalonia. The information will also be available in all computers in fire vehicles, regional emergency centres and temporary emergency centres.

Indra will collaborate on this project with the American firm, Intergraph, which specialises in the creation of electronic emergency management devices. The project is estimated to cost 8.7 million euro.
