Catalonia has taken in a total of 10 Afghan refugees since the fall of Kabul to Taliban forces on August 15 sparked a mass exodus of people desperately attempting to flee the country.

Of the 289 Afghans who worked for the Spanish government and forces in Afghanistan and who were evacuated to the military base of Torrejón de Ardoz, near Madrid, 230 have already been relocated across Spain, while the remaining 59 are expected to do so on Tuesday.

Another 277 Afghan allies of the US and other European forces landed in Torrejón de Ardoz on Monday in addition to the 260 refugees who arrived that same day.

Spain's Inclusion, Social Security and Migration minister, José Luis Escrivá, celebrated how quickly refugees have been relocated across the country as most have been able to spend under three days at the base.
