Catalan Parliament speaker Roger Torrent has “acted like a fanatic of independence” in filing lawsuits against four Spanish judges for perversion of justice, illegal detention and infringement of rights, say Ciutadans (Cs), the main opposition party in the chamber.

Torrent’s decision to begin legal proceedings against judge Pablo Llarena and three other Supreme Court judges for their handling of the case against Catalan pro-independence leaders, nine of whom are behind bars, drew strong criticism from the unionist party.
