Allowing Catalan MPs abroad a proxy vote in Parliament is proving controversial –and will once again see the involvement of the Spanish judiciary in Catalan politics.

On Wednesday, the Parliament bureau confirmed its decision to let MP Toni Comín, who is in Brussels, to take part in Catalan Parliament plenary sessions. In fact, Comín already voted in the chamber on Wednesday, along with deposed president Carles Puigdemont, who was granted the same right a month ago.

Yet Ciutadans (Cs), the main unionist party in Catalonia, announced that it intends to challenge Comín’s delegated vote in Spain’s Constitutional Court, following the “inactivity” of the Spanish government. Cs’ leader in Catalonia, Inés Arrimadas, tweeted that her party will “appeal to the Constitutional Court.”
