The Catalan president Quim Torra put on a reception this Tuesday July 24 for the consular corp in Barcelona. His speech was done in Catalan, Spanish, and English, and in it, he highlighted how “essential” the “right to self-determination” is to Catalans.

“The concept of an [independent] republic is synonymous with freedom,” said Torra

“We’ll never give up on it,” he said, explaining that in his view, during the October 1 independence referendum, Catalonia did just that, and now, “making the results effective in a democratic way” was being called for.
