The vice president of Spain, Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría, denied today that Spanish riot police acted with disproportionate force or violence in a sweeping anti-referendum operation.

Meanwhile, graphic images and videos of police brutality by Spanish law enforcement towards citizens – and even other law enforcement of Catalonia – have come to light. The current count of those injured by the Spanish police today in their attempts to stop the October 1 vote has risen to 465.
