The October 1, 2017 Catalan referendum started with several actions by CDR pro-independence group across the country.

From early morning, the high-speed AVE railway was blocked in Girona, with hundreds of activists sitting in the tracks in the northern Catalan station.

At around 9am protesters ended their action in the Girona AVE high-speed train station.

But this was only one of the actions kicking off around 7am: some CDR members were blocking some parts of the Barcelona center, including Aragó street, Catalunya square and Via Laietana. A protest was also held nearby, outside the Bank of Spain.

Around 8am several groups cutting roads across the Catalan capital united in Passeig de Gràcia, hosting several modernist buildings and the stock market.

Elsewhere in the country several roads were also blocked in the early morning, including AP-7 highway at Vandellòs (North direction) and LL-11 road in Lleida. LL-11 reopened traffic just before 8am.
