Catalan government spokesperson Elsa Artadi said that the freedom of Carles Puigdemont—the former president exiled abroad—shows the “nonsense" of Spain keeping most of his colleagues imprisoned for their role in the independence bid.

Artadi referred to an upcoming trip by the members of the Catalan government, who will greet Puigdemont at his arrival in Belgium next Saturday. The pro-independence leader will return to his house in Waterloo from Germany after the Spanish Supreme Court withdrew the extradition order against him and other politicians abroad.
