Former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont has resumed his political activities upon returning to Brussels after four months in Germany. Until Spain withdrew the European arrest warrant against him after the German court accepted to extradite him for misuse of funds, the pro-independence leader had been unable to leave the country.

The current head of government Quim Torra and a delegation of  the administration’s councillors travelled to the Belgian capital where they met with Puigdemont and members of the previous cabinet Toni Comín, Lluís Puig, and Clara Ponsatí. The meeting took place in Catalonia’s government delegation to the European Union. It was the first time Puigdemont entered it since leaving the country at the end of lasts October following a declaration of independence from Spain.

Members of the current government present included Laura Borràs (Minister of Culture,) Jordi Puigneró (Minister of Digital Technologies,) and Àngels Chacón (Minister of Enterprise.)

A delegation from Junts per Catalunya (JxCat,) are also in Brussels. They will participate in an event to be held on Saturday afternoon, attended by Puigdemont, to show support for Catalan pro-independence leaders in prison.
