Jailed leaders being transferred to Catalan prisons

Six cabinet members arrive in centers of central and northern Catalonia

Six out of the nine Catalan leaders incarcerated have been transferred to Catalan prisons after spending several months in Madrid penitentiaries. Two of them, Carme Forcadell and Dolors Bassa, left Alcalá-Meco center on Wednesday at 7.45am local time and arrived in the Puig de les Basses jail shortly after 4pm, in northern Catalonia, later on in the day after a short stopover in the Saragossa area.

The other four, including the former Catalan vice president Oriol Junqueras, started their journey around an hour later in the Zuera prison, also in the Saragossa region, were they spent a night while being transferred from two Madrid jails. They arrived in the Brians II center later in the morning, where they were moved to the nearby Lledoners prison at around 1pm.

Three nights and 800km en route

Junqueras, along with former minister Raül Romeva and activists Jordi Cuixart and Jordi Sánchez (currently also MP,) started their process to be transferred from Madrid jails to a Catalan prison on Monday. They were grouped in one center, Valdemoro, where they spent one night. On Tuesday, they left for Zuera jail (Saragossa), where they spent another night. On Wednesday, they reached Catalan center Brians II but it was also temporary, because their final destination is Lledoners prison, where they arrived at around 1pm. The whole journey havs taken three days over around 800km (500 miles.)

The female incarcerated leaders, Carme Forcadell and Dolors Bassa, have been transferred in one day, in which they have travelled more than 700km (435 miles.)
