Pro-independence Esquerra Republicana (ERC) still says that it will not support Socialist Pedro Sánchez's presidential bid following a meeting between representatives of both parties that took place Thursday evening.

While failing to come to an agreement, the parties have said that the meeting was successful in establishing a starting point for dialogue on what they have described as a "political conflict" in Catalonia.

ERC, the Spanish Socialists, and their Catalan branch have agreed to meet again in Madrid on December 3 to continue discussions on the matter.

Thursday's meeting was headed by ERC spokesperson in the Spanish Congress, Gabriel Rufián, and the Socialist congressional spokesperson, Adriana Lastra.

Both Esquerra and the Socialists issued releases after the meeting in which they highlighted their differences while still stressing their readiness to continue talks.
