CUP urge Catalan Government to present a new budget proposal for 2016

There won’t be any agreement on the draft budget for 2016 unless the Catalan Government presents a new proposal including radical left CUP’s “proposals, demands and points of view”. This is what CUP MP, Eulàlia Reguant stated this Tuesday after registering theamendment to the entire budget proposal that the Catalan Vice President and Minister of Economy, Oriol Junqueras, presented last week. One of the anti-capitalists’ demands is to disobey the Spanish Government deficit targets and promote “more ambitious” tax reforms. On the other hand, the Catalan Secretary for Economy, Pere Aragonès warned that it’s “necessary” to pass the budget in order to put Catalonia “at the gates of independence”.

Barcelona (CNA).- Radical left CUP registered this Tuesday their veto on the entire draft budget for 2016 that the Catalan Vice President and Minister of Economy, Oriol Junqueras, presented last week. According to CUP MP, Eulàlia Reguant the anti-capitalists won’t reach any agreement with pro-independence cross-party ‘Junts Pel Sí’ unless they present a new draft budget which “includes CUP’s proposals, demands and points of view”. One of CUP’s demands is to disobey the Spanish Government deficit targets and promote “more ambitious” tax reforms. On the other hand, the Catalan Secretary for Economy, Pere Aragonès warned that it’s “necessary” to pass the budget in order to put Catalonia “at the gates of independence”.

CUP MP, Eulàlia Reguant called for turning the draft budget into an “inflection point” in the framework of the pro-independence process and emphasised that once the budget is passed “the income section can’t be touched”. “What we are doing is very serious and nobody aims to place any obstacles”, stated Reguant and added that the budget “must reflect the pro-independence declaration proposal of the 9th of November and also reflect that we are building a Republic for all the Catalans, and therefore the popular classes will notice that”. “We are convinced that we are able to present a much better draft budget and which will really put us at the gates of independence”.

Passing the budget is “necessary” to put Catalonia “at the gates of independence”

The Catalan Secretary for Economy, Pere Aragonès warned that it’s “necessary” to pass the budget in order to “move forward” and put Catalonia “at the gates of independence”. “We can’t increase the amount allocated for the Tax Agency or the Minister for Foreign Affairs without a budget”, he stated in an interview with CNA.

Aragonès also dismissed the possibility of disobeying the deficit target imposed by the Spanish executive, which is one of CUP’s main demands. According to the Catalan Secretary for Economy, it would force suppliers, such as hospitals, city halls and social entities, to fund the deficit. Aragonès forecast that the negotiations between ‘Junts Pel Sí’ and CUP will take a long time but assured that he is convinced that they will reach an agreement.
