Iberia ground staff at Barcelona-El Prat airport have called off strikes that were planned for August 30 and August 31, as announced by workers union UGT on Wednesday.

Following another meeting this morning at the Department of Labor, the strike committee has agreed to commit to “the direction of Iberia, which will improve employment conditions for the staff at Barcelona-El Prat airport.” Ground staff had expressed concerns regarding an increased workload over the summer season.

The strike committee has stated that, as a “demonstration of responsibility” they are calling off the strikes and offering a “truce” with Iberia to put an end to the conflict.

Ground staff representatives and Iberia management continue to meet at their headquarters, to come to an agreement in order to prevent further strikes.

The strike committee has pointed out that it reserves the right to call strikes again if Iberia “does not fulfill its commitment in the coming days.”
