Blood donating marathon aims high

12 January 2018 07:15 PM

The new flu outbreak affecting Catalonia is lowering the supplies of blood available for transfusions. It happens every winter and because of this, the Catalan Blood and Tissue Bank – run by the Catalan Health Department – is launching once again a donation marathon starting this Friday. The aim of the initiative is to attract at least 8,000 people to the Catalan hospitals in a week. Yet organizers hope that the figure is higher than last year, which was 11,662, as the flu outbreak has lowered the blood reserves by 15%.
