Both leaders spoke after spending 15 months in pre-trial detention, and were both applauded and criticized by other politicians.</span></span></p> <p><span><span><span id="docs-internal-guid-1402f183-7fff-6c95-8baa-8b9eb0e07184"><span>The main unionist parties in Spain are trying to prevent the Catalan president and his predecessor in exile, Carles Puigdemont, from speaking in the European Parliament next Monday.
