Lloret de Mar (CNA).- The Catalan Minister for Innovation, Universities and Business, Josep Huguet, inaugurated on Thursday the ‘Gran Casino Costa Brava’, in Lloret de Mar (the touristic centre on the Northern Catalan coast). It is the 4th casino in Catalonia with a total of 2,000 square metres of gambling space. According to the President of the casino, Joan Lao, this casino pursues a “new” concept for leisure, culture and gambling of “maximum quality”. The casino, which opened its gates on the 1st of July, has received an average of 700 people per day, a figure higher than expected. Moreover, Minister Huguet has emphasised that the Gran Casino Costa Brava is a “recreational, cultural and leisure facility” that guarantees the circulation of people throughout the year and, in addition, will represent a “strong point” for Girona’s province coast from now on.

The construction of the Gran Casino Costa Brava in Lloret de Mar is a reality thanks to the CONEI Corporation, one of the most renowned business groups within the gambling area. The group has invested about 50 million euros in the construction of this establishment. A casino with many facilities

The casino facilities are divided into 4 different floors and a total of 9,000 square metres, 2,000 of which correspond to the gambling room. The space has about 150 arcade machines, an electronic roulette, Blackjack tables, American and French roulettes and a poker table with a capacity for almost one thousand specialised players. Aside from the recreational areas, the new casino has also a Congress Palace –with a capacity for 1,200 people-, an all-purpose room, an exhibition room and a restaurant, led by the Catalan chef Ramon Freixa. 3 of its floors correspond to the parking area, with a capacity for 500 vehicles.

The President of the Casino, Joan Lao, has stressed the fact that the Gran Casino Costa Brava pursues a “new” concept for leisure, culture and gambling of “maximum quality” for the city of Lloret de Mar, but also for the Costa Brava (the North coastline of Catalonia) and for Catalonia. Moreover, Lao has emphasised the “enormous” security of this new building, as it has 202 video cameras that control the comings and goings of the clients. He also said that the 700 people that they receive per day represents a higher figure than the one they had expected, but he attributed it to the summer season.

The Catalan Minister for Innovation, Universities and Business, Josep Huguet, also emphasised that this facility “sets up a future for sustainable tourism of the 21st century in Costa Brava”, as it is a building fully integrated into its surroundings and respectful with nature.

Jobs for 250 people

The new project will give jobs to 250 people. One hundred of them have come from the Crupiers’ School (located in the same hotel) and around eighty are former workers of a previous casino in the area, property of the Peralada group.
